“I will not be here today if it was not for the fact that my great-grandmothers in the 1880’s Gold Coast (now Ghana) were given the opportunity to attend school. Education of any individual has resounding effects not only on their lives but also on those in their community and on generations to come. The Urban Centers of this country foster innovations that affect the lives of all around the world. Where would we be if the future generation does not have a solid foundation? I am honored to be given the opportunity to use my knowledge and skills to serve and influence the lives of others through education.”

F. Nana Ofosu-Amaah is currently the deputy director for the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Early Childhood Education. She is responsible for implementing best practices around the organization’s processes focused on improving teaching and learning as well as the quality of early childhood education programs in public schools and community based organizations. This responsibility also includes what and how the organization shares knowledge with educators and parents to raise awareness on building solid foundations for success for our youngest students. Prior to joining The Broad Residency, Ofosu-Amaah was on a special assignment coordinating the efforts of an organizational transformation, from strategic planning to sales. With previous roles within the services and support organizations at Hewlett Packard Company, she directed the development and implementation of customer services and support strategies for HP’s Consumer PC and Emerging Products and balanced customer satisfaction and operational cost. Ofosu-Amaah began her professional career as a product engineering and business analyst at Ford Motor Company’s Truck Division. She later went on to lead the development of a technology transfer program at the Ghana Regional Appropriate Technology Industrial Service, providing rural communities access to safer water supply. Ofosu-Amaah also has previous experience consulting to a financial services firm on global restructuring and leading a replication initiative for a non-profit that provides low income women training on starting new businesses. Ofosu-Amaah holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University and a master’s degree in business administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Ofosu-Amaah is a participant in The Broad Residency in Urban Education (Class of 2009-2011), serving her two-year Residency at the New York City Department of Education.
